PHASE FATALE 12" & HAND OF DUST 7" out now!

After a little delay, Avant! is pleased to open orders on two new releases of ours.

PHASE FATALE - Skyscraper 12" EP
Phase Fatale is the new techno project of Hayden Payne (also behind the cold wave band Dream Affair) based in Berlin via New York.
With only two appearances on compilations from Nostilevo and Electric Voice Records last year, Payne debuts his first 12” EP, Skyscraper, through Avant! Records.
The EP moves between noise-ridden soundscapes and minimal industrial techno rhythms influenced by EBM classics, such as Front 242 and Klinik, to modern contemporaries like Silent Servant and Ancient Methods.
Only 23, Hayden Payne approaches his music with a youthful and unique touch turning disparate sounds into driving and danceable noise.
All tracks were recorded live using only hardware synthesizers, drum machines and effects.

HAND OF DUST - Walk in White 7"
Hand Of Dust is a trio from Copenhagen.
They somehow belong the Posh Isolation brood but they play a personal variation of dark rock music with roots in folk and with a lot of focus on songwriting and lyrics.
Originally formed in order to play the acoustic songs of singer Bo Høyer Hansen as an electric setting, it quickly grew into a band. In September 2012 the band released a demo tape and in January 2014 they put out a 7" EP on NY label Blind Prophet called Without Grace Or Glory.
Recently Hand Of Dust reentered the studio and recorded two songs out now on Avant!: Walk In White b/w A Sight For The Living.
Speaking of this new 7-inch single, Danish webzine Votexas says "I remember seeing them playing one of their first concerts: I nudged the guy next to me and exlaimed “They got like a neo-folk thing going, but electric, don’t they?” to which he answered: “Nah, they’re more like Dead Moon.” In a way I hear both". With some good ol' Gun Club vibe, we might add.
This summer the band will arrange a small European tour and once again take to the studio, this time to record a full length LP which will be out on Avant! again after summer.
Fow now you may enjoy these two new tunes: not many bands these days can create such a personal sound when it comes to dark folk/rock music.

NUN s/t LP out today

After a little delay due to RSD, we are just thrilled to welcome one of the most powerful bands Melbourne has ever produced, presenting their dark-yet-somehow-vibrant vision of electronic pop with their debut self-titled album.

Employing the weight of gnarling basslines, shimmering analogue synthesiser, punishing drum machine and the scathing lyrical vision of Jenny Branagan, Nun’s sound flows from sinister drone-orgy and hyperkinetic synth-punk to saturated new wave worship.
An unrelenting aesthetic sense penetrates every aspect of this record, resulting in a remarkably cohesive work of art. Song structures are simple, considered and direct - everything is fine-tuned to ensure maximum sonic devastation. The music is danceable and poppy, it’s sad and incisive, it’s fun, aggressive and heavy as hell. Most impressive of all is its immense force; the effortless delivery belying an overwhelming sense of something very heavy and unpleasant looming just beneath the scintillating pop surface.

Co-released with Aarght Records from Australia, LP comes in printed innersleeve housed in thick, reversed jackets.

Digital edition out April 28, stay tuned!

CONTREPOISON "I Keep On Searching" EP out today

Long due vinyl press of Contrepoison second EP. We have been glad and proud to debut Pierre-Marc Tremblay's electronic solo project back in 2011 with his first ...Until Next Morning EP. Since then Contrepoison has shared an ace split with Vatican Shadow and put out a couple of tape releases on his own Sans Issue record label.

Digitally released in 2012 by Hospital Productions and Heartworm Press, I Keep On Searching finally sees the light on April 15, 2014 via Avant! Records and Sans Issue.
The closest comparison we could make is early Cold Cave again, but there's more here: something dead-eyed and drugged proper to this sound. Make sure to check the sludgy bass thrust and distant, dingy vox of I Keep On Searching and the bleak, tormented coldwave pop of Nectar Of Destiny.

One-time pressing of 500 on 45rpm black vinyl 12".
Comes with thick insert sheet with lyrics and credits.
